Myoma of the Uterus

Abstract
At Ewha Woman¢¥s University Hospital we have experienced 85 cases of myoma of the uterus during ~ years period from 1962 to 1969. ,
The following results liave been obtained.
1) The incidence of myoma among total cases of both abdominal and vaginal gynecological surgery is about 7% in case of excluding Cesarean section, therapeutic abortion and deliveries or 10% when excluding more of ectopic pregnancy.
2) The frequency of myoma was much higher (52%) especially between the age of 40 and 49, the next between 30 and 39 year of age, and none in the age of 28 or below.
3) The incidence of infertility associated with myoma seemed relatively common (41%) in which consist of 16% of the primary sterility and 25% of the secondary sterility cases. Approximately 18% of the cases of myoma were associated with pregnancy.
4) The parity distribution in myoma was much higher, figuring 33% in the patient with parity 0. The more increase the paity the greater the reduction of myoma distribution.
5) The location of myoma was much common in the corpus uteri (93%), but less in the cervix (7¡Æ0).
The types of tumor consist of 43% of intramural myoma, 24% of subserous myoma and 16% of submucous myoma.
6) The symptom of uterine bleeding has occured in 57% of the cases of myoma and it¢¥s characteristics was hyper or menorrhagic type.
The myoma most likely to cause bleeding was the submucous type in which constitute about 65% of all cases of bleeding.
Approximately one third cases of myoma were able to palpate it¢¥s lumps pressure symptomes were noticed in the one half cases of myoma.
7) The most commonly, associated conditions in myoma were ovarian cyst (27%) and adenomyosis or endometriosis (13%,o).
8) The most frequent secondary changes in myoma was hyaline degeneration, no any sarcomatous changes had been noticed.
9) The majority cases (72%) of myoma were treated by the abdominal total hysterectomy with maximum ovarian preservation (in two-third of cases).No operative mortality encountered.
10) The frequency of over all pit-falls in diagnosis of myoma were 19 cases or 22.4%. The diagnosis most likely to miss was ovarian cyst (10%), and less commonly as adenomyosis.
